Well, I just remembered that I had promised (ha!) Julie that I would tell her about the Halloweeen party that Blingdaddy and I attended on the night before Halloween, and bad, bad Blingmama has not done so yet, nearly a whole week later! So hold onto your hats, because this will probably get kind of long and obnoxious......
The house was decorated so fabulously I will probably forget details. But you know me. I will TRY! LOL Of course there were the outside decorations when you approached the house. Every year these neighbors do the BEST job with their outside decorations. I failed to snap a pic of them this year, but I think I liked last year's better, except for the graveyard they had in front this year. I am OBSESSED with those headstones and WANT SOME!!!! Actually we bought one this year but it just wouldn't stay put. The wind was always blowing the durned thing over. Finally I just gave up and took it inside!!!! GRRR!!! What I would REALLy like is a whole "family plot" of wooden headstones or something, with funny/scary sayings on them.....I have seen a few in the neighborhood and I really should knock on doors and ask the homeowners about them, because they are simply genius!!!
Okay, so now we're in the front entry hall, and to the right is the study, where two "coffins" are lined up on the floor, one labelled "Guest Coffin". I can't recall what the other one was labelled - been too long, but suffice it to say it was a very cool entrance! There was spooky music playing on the computer in the study, accompanied by an appropriately frightening screen saver! :) On the wall in front of the door was a neat Halloween sign - lit up, and a neat gnarly Halloween Tree strung with orange lights. The lights in the front hall were basically nonesistant - the atmosphere was intentionally murky. Going up the staircase were little black mouse shapes, accompanied by mouse HOLES. Over the doorways into the LR and study were flying bats. The bats were also over the front door on the outside of the house. (Oh, and there was scary music playing outside when you approached the front door.)
The diningroom table was covered in flowing fabrics with shimmer, and in the center was a "crystal ball" with a floating head in it - lit somehow, of course.
The kitchen island was covered in more pretty cloths of orange and black, and a large candelabra was holding lit black candles. Strewn over the island were platters and chafing dishes of appetizers, all with "nametags" in orange, held up in interesting Halloween-themed holders such as bats, spiders, and skulls....The food had names featuring words such as "decomposing flesh". Quite clever. :) And the food was, as usual at Patti's house, delish!
Wrapped around the bottom of the island was black "cobwebbing" strung with spiders and millipedes. On the mantel above the fireplace was a black raven and a large skeleton. Basically, the entire first floor was covered in Halloween decorations. I can't imagine where these people STORE this stuff the rest of the year, or how long it takes to put all of this around the house!!!!!! (Not to mention how much it all cost.) I am only sorry that I didn't make it down into the finished basement to see what was down there.....that's where the "old friends" all were, and I'm talking people that Bart went to kindergarten with (and that was fiftysome years ago, folks!).....Just didn't feel right intruding into that crowd, so I stayed in the kitchen.
Blingdaddy lasted quite a while there, considering that Patti and Bart recently decided to get a little Yorkie, who was probably shedding all over the place! LOL Finally, though, he had to split, and I stayed about an hour or so longer, chatting with several neighbors and friends of Patti's whom I'd never met before.
But now for the costumes!!!! My absolute favorite couple came as Cruella deVille and a Dalmation. The Cruella costume was amazing - a wig that was half black/half white in a very long bob, along with a dalmation stole with glittering brooch, long red gloves, cigarette holder, black slinky floor-length dress, you-know-what-me Pumps, and a stunningly slim figure beneath it all! The husband's costume was really cool - a kind of jumpsuit-y cream colored affair, with spots of differing sizes (and they appeared to be velvety) all over. Oh, and he had a cute black nose drawn on as well. Excellent. :)
Let's see, there was Mr. and Mrs. Claus on an Island Vacation; a Sugar Daddy and his, well, little darling; a clown; a fabulous witch (which made me REALLY glad I decided at the last minute to go as a cat rather than a witch, because my costume wouldn't have held a candle to this woman's costume!); some sportsfans; a "pair of jeans" - his and hers; a leafblower and snowblower (these were very imaginative and featured a hat with leaves and snowflakes, respectively, hanging on stings from the brim, right at mouth level for "blowing"), and a "graduate" dressed in his son's cap and gown, complete with a cute little diploma hanging from his neck featuring rather naughty wording (especially considering the fact that this man had a fit last summer because the guys who were trimming his trees used some "cusswords" in the backyard! LOL).
So, I think that's about it for the party, except to mention that the food was all quite yummy, and the desserts beautiful. Patti had cupcakes decorated in gorgeous fashion with gumdrops and sprinkles - pretty sure they were home made - along with some brownies and toffee squares.
All in all, I'm quite happy that Patti and Bart included us on the guest list!!!! Hopefully more of the same next year!
Oh, here's a picture of Blingdaddy and yours truly before we left. Blingdaddy is a chef, and I'm a kitty cat. :)
