Blingdaddy has another physical therapy session this evening - he had one last night and came home pretty sore from the workout the therapist gave him......well, isn't that what therapy usually does? Makes you want to cry out in agony? If it helps, I guess it's worth it, but if it doesn't, then it's all just so much pain......
Speaking of pain, I guess that all of our family runners are having a little helping of that as well - seems as though long distance running is just not something our bodies like to do very much......I'm wondering if all that running is what helped Early Man to his Early Demise.......
On the subject of running, a little brag here for Scott - he finished his half marathon last week with a per-mile time (sorry, I don't know the proper terminology exactly....) of 7 minutes, 10 seconds.....sounds pretty good to me! Congrats to you, Scott!!!
Let's see, I'm going to have some stream-of-consciousness writing here - little bits of this and that are floating to the surface of my aged brain......
Tommy's Back to School Night last week was very entertaining for me, as usual. He has some interesting teachers this year, and hopefully he's off to a good start in the grade department. The school has this new system called the Home Access System whereby parents can go online and check out their children's grades twenty-four/seven...how's THAT for a motivational factor? LOL Now we parents are peering over your shoulders incessantly! Aren't you girls glad there was no such thing when YOU were all in high school? :) Not that it would have mattered - you were all stellar students!
The only thing bad about Back to School Nights is how I only know about three parents in the entire school, and have to witness nearly EVERY OTHER PARENT THERE chatting away happily, laughing and having fun, and I get to sit there talking to no one and looking like an idiot. I HATE that! Oh, well, that's what I get for moving to Geneva after nearly all of my children were out of elementary school! LOL I guess it's worth it - I LOVE Geneva, and would never in a million years want to go back to Wheaton!!!!! Icky-poo!
We had a small crisis the other day regarding Band - Tom was wanting to drop it, but then changed his mind after I had gone to the school, filled out the form, and even called to leave a message for the band teacher explaining everything. The only bad thing was that the band teacher actually PICKED UP HIS TELEPHONE and I had to speak with him!!!!!!!! Horrors! You know me and my babbling when nervous!!! I am QUITE sure that the man thinks I'm a brainless, blithering idiot at this point, but hopefully he won't hold that against Tom.......Of course, then it was all for nothing, because Tom decided to stick it out......he is now the proud owner of a new synthetic reed, which hopefully will solve the problem of the Itching Mouth and Throat every time he plays his instrument. (Yes, we decided that it must be the wondrous family Tree Allergy - reeds are made from wood......)Last night I helped the dear boy polish up a story he was writing based on a Ray Bradbury short story. It was fun to see the twists and turns Tom added to the plotline.....of course, I couldn't resist adding a litlte bit as well........all in all, it turned out pretty well. Maybe I should publish it here! LOL
The other day I took out a book from the library written in a manner that I had thought would be kind of interesting - a story told entirely in Email format! Why hadn't I done that when I actually thought of it? Curses! I just polished off a Robin Cook novel that was interesting, and yesterday I couldn't resist and purchased the sequel to DaVinci Code. It was forty percent off at Borders, so why not? Since Grandma L had given me her DaVinci since she actually didn't LIKE IT (!!!!!) I wanted to have a "matched set"!
I am soooo excited that Julie and Scott will be coming here in less than a month!!!!! Seems like waaaay too long a time since I was able to give my JuJuBee a hug, but I know it hasn't been all THAT long....just FEELS like it!!!! And I will be soooo relieved when I don't have to remember to be careful when I talk to the extended family members!!!! At the Labor Day barbeque Grandma M had I nearly tripped up and started blabbing to Cindy (of all people) about how exciting it's going to be to have a new family member!!!
And then there's the fun wedding planning going on for Miss Kate! 2010 is going to be a banner year in the family, that's for sure - a new baby, a college graduation, a 60th birthday party, and a wedding!!!!!!!!!! Heavens, can we STAND it all? Aren't we just the luckiest people in the entire world? And when am I going to stop asking questions????
Can't help myself - I think I'm still on a high from talking with my beauties on the phone the past few days. Whenever I get to chat with you guys, I usually hang up the phone and walk around smiling like a crazy person for hours afterward. (Except for those rare occasions where something goes wrong in the conversation and then I walk around crying for days, but that's another story entirely....hahahaha)
Tomorrow I'm meeting up with some ladies from the QVC Beauty Board at Woodfield for lunch. Should be fun. I've met with a few of them before - I think it was in May - we got together for lunch at Maggiano's in Oakbrook. I think we're meeting at Ruby Tuesday's tomorrow - need to verify that, don't I? :) I can't remember the last time I was at a Ruby Tuesday's. Too bad the organizer didn't pick Cheesecake Factory...sigh. Oh, well, good thing for my eating plan, I guess, not to be tempted by cheesecake!!!!!!
And speaking of cheesecake, I am still savoring the memory of the fabulous Pumpkin Cheesecake I had at the Olive Garden when Blingdaddy and I met up with Kate, Brent, and Brent's parents! OMG, that was just short of divine! I think I want more before the fall season is over.......I'm willing to share......
Okay, what else is buzzing around in my brain? Today is a wedding for Jean - Kelly was supposed to babysit for Alene and Kiersten tonight, but Mike's mom came up from Florida early this year, and she'll be doing the honors! :) Kelly's a bit miffed - she just loves Kiersten (Alene. not so much) and was looking to spending the evening with them....
Let's see, Kelly reports that Student Teaching is going swimmingly. Okay, she didn't use that exact word, of course, that's an Old Fogey word that I supplied, but you get the drift. She really likes her two Cooperating Teachers, and she's loving the kids as well. At first she was liking the Middle School more, but she's warming to the High School now! And even though there are some mornings that she's had to be there early (and there will be many more of those before the semester's over), she's still enjoying her experience. Maybe the next time you see her, you can ask her to show you one of her videos. She has had to record herself teaching to send it in to her Student Teaching Supervisor in Urbana - hey, what's a couple hundred dollars for a Flip Camera among friends? LOL Of course, she's still cranky sometimes about missing Matt, but what can you expect? hahaha Haven't most of us been there at one time or another?
Tommy has been a Guitar Fiend lately - just can't keep that thing out of his hands! It will be interesting to see how long his fascination with the guitar lasts.......did you all know that he will be starting piano lessons next Thursday? Yes, he says he's looking forward to learning the piano in the hope that it will help him be able to write songs....hmmm....wouldn't writing songs entail SINGING songs????....that's not something he's every been willing to do.........he's also talking about taking Music Theory next year in school. That is one of the things Geneva High has over WWSHS - Music Theory classes! :)
So, are your eyes crossing yet? I could go on, but I shall spare you all. Oh, but be sure to look at the post and picture below! :)
I remain,
The Luckiest Mommy In The World,
Blingmama
